About us!
As an independent business we pride ourselves on the history and our story, so who exactly are we?
The shop was founded by Mr John Spencer in 1902, the eldest of two brothers, Frank & Ernest. John Spencer lived above the present shop in Market Place, Shipston and first traded in High street, Shipston as a boot factor, clothier etc selling K Boots and Shoes.
Some years later in about 1906, he left the shop to farm at Darlingscott, and the firm became Spencer Bros with Frank and Ernest Spencer in partnership. The partnership with Ernest and Frank was dissolved in 1929, Frank continuing trading in the High Street and Ernest in the present premises in Market Place.
On the death of Ernest in 1965, the business continued under the guidance of Margaret, Ernest Spencer’s only daughter along with her husband Keith Rutter.
The shop is still continuing in the same way run by their son John, and his daughter Sarah, and together, we aim to provide a 'traditional shopping experience' in today's modern world.
We both look forward to seeing you soon!
